Youth Minister to the Pope

What if one of the young people in your youth group went on to change the world?

Today, October 22, we celebrate the Memorial of Pope St. John Paul II, who founded World Youth Day and inspired generations to follow Christ. Before he became a significant Church figure, he was a young man influenced by a youth minister named Jan Tyranowski.

Jan, a Polish tailor, stepped into youth ministry during World War II when many priests were arrested by the Nazis. He organized small prayer groups and guided young men in their faith, including Karol Wojtyła, who later became Pope John Paul II. Jan's support and encouragement helped shape Karol's spiritual journey.

As youth leaders, we may not always see the results of our efforts. Jan's story reminds us that impact isn't solely measured by numbers. It can often be found in the life of just one young person.

On this Memorial of St. John Paul II, thank you for your dedication to youth ministry and for the unseen acts of love that help young people deepen their faith and encounter Christ.
